Notable
- ◆ Royal Family heritage
- ◆ 1956 Melbourne Olympics
- ◆ Vanden Plas coachwork
Used by the British Royal Family for state occasions. Prince Philip drove this car on Royal Tour in 1953, and it was used again at the opening of the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. It was later flown to Papua New Guinea for Queen Elizabeth II’s 1975 Independence Day Parade.
Discovered in poor condition at a tyre shop in North Melbourne, Pina was rescued and restored in honour of ACC co-founder Josepina Roberts, hence the nickname.
The Vanden Plas coachwork gives Pina an imposing yet stately presence. The seven-seat configuration was designed for exactly the kind of formal procession work she performed for the Royal Family. There are few cars in Melbourne with a more remarkable documented history.
